On I july, The Queen opened the new Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh. A philatelic numismatic cover (PNC) became available bearing the four new Scottish stamps cancelled by a special handstamp, and the 1999 £1 coin showing the Scottish lion rampant. The cover shows Falkland Palace - a popular hunting box for some of the Scottish kings. James v died there in 1542, and his daughter, Mary Queen of Scots, stayed there on several occasions.
