Springtime flowers mark the most profound change from the chilled depths of
winter to the rebirth of spring. Every year, no matter how harsh the winter, spring
flowers appear, sometimes peeking through the snow, reminding us that a new
season beckons. As well as being a source of great joy and injecting colour into the
countryside, these plants are vital sources of food for animals that hibernate over
winter in the UK. 2014

The Classic Locomotives series pays tribute to the ‘workhorses’ of the railways,
many of which had working lives of several decades before diesel and electric
technology completely took over in the 1960s.
The earliest railways in Wales were built for commercial and industrial purposes
and served collieries and smelting works. Classic Locomotives of Wales features
steam locomotives used not just on the public railway network but also in many
industrial settings, the main one being the transportation of coal from the steep
narrow valleys to ports such as Cardiff and Barry.
Values do not have currency symbols (1st as Af) as this is a Welsh issue. 2014

The First World War was an event without precedent in history and touched every household in Britain, either
directly (with family members killed, injured or lost in action) or through the immense social changes it
triggered. The centenary of this conflict is being marked with a series of 30 stamps to be
released over the next five years. Each year of the war will be commemorated by a set of six stamps, exploring six visual and thematic strands: poppy, poetry, portraits, war art, memorials and artefacts. 2014
